James’ research focuses on the frameworks of cultural exchange exhibited in Electronic and Popular Music. Researching into the applicability of concepts such as globalisation, postcolonialism and digitisation amongst creative music processes, research undertaken as part of his programme of PhD study embraces approaches from Ethnomusicology and Popular Music studies.

James blends this academic study with practical experience as a composer and performer of Electronic Music, creating engaging new music that merges audible interculturality into exploratory Ambient soundscapes and densely textured Electronic beat-making.
