Music and Intercultural Practice symposium - 29/30 April 2021
The Chinese Whispers Cluster in Music successfully hosted the International Online Symposium on “Music and Intercultural Practice” at the end of April (29th and 30th). Supported by the Confucius Institute, over 150 delegates from across the world registered for the event with contributions from America, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, India, Mexico, Serbia and the UK among other nations. The programme included four keynote presentations, three performances and sixteen spoken papers across five themed sessions.
Lively discussions about interculturalism and culture itself were debated in the context of different musical practices with interdisciplinary perspectives gained from music educationalists, theorists, psychologists, ethnomusicologists, creative practitioners and others. Described as a “wonderful event” and “great symposium”, thank you to the incredible work of the organizing committee: Elaine King (Chair), Alex Binns, Simon Desbruslais, Yanyi Lu, Eloise McCann, Rowan Oliver and James Rushworth
